The Centenary Year Apprentice Competition, sponsored by the CITB, Brandon Hire Station and Chilworth Timber, will take place from 19th to 21st June 2019 and is open to all apprentices, of any age who are undergoing training or nearing completion of their training in the craft of Bench joinery or its related activities.
The competition will challenge Apprentices from member organisations of the NAS.
Taking place at Leeds College of Building, competitors will be sent a design brief prior to the competition and will be challenged to make the piece at the college on Thursday 20th June.
Arriving on 19th June, staying at Jury’s Inn, Leeds, after a short walk to the College, there will be time for a Health and Safety briefing and some time to prepare in the afternoon.
On 20th June, the competition will run from 8.30am to 4.30pm, and the pieces will be judged at the end of the day by CITB, CIOB and an NAS Honorary Member. That evening the decision will be announced at a celebration BBQ event on the roof terrace at Angelica Restaurant, with stunning views overlooking the City.
The Winner will receive a cash prize of £500 and Makita tools valued at £800 and a trophy. There will also be a prize for the runner-up of Makita tools to the value of £400, all tools donated by Brandon Hire Station
They will also be invited as a guest of the NAS to attend the Centenary Celebration Fundraising event on 24th October 2019 where they will be presented with an Award
The NAS will provide accommodation for 2 nights with breakfast, a meal on the first night and at the celebration event for each competitor. Materials will be provided but each entrant will be required to come prepared with their own tools, as are normally appropriate to a working joiner, details will be provided once an application has been accepted.
Additional tickets to attend the BBQ can be purchased at a cost of £40 + vat.
To enter, complete the registration form and pay the entrance fee of £150. Once registration is completed, competitors will be sent a pack containing Rules for entry and a summary outlining the competition, The design brief and drawings will be sent to all competitors at the beginning of June 2019. Deadline for entry is 31st May 2019 or earlier if spaces have been filled.
